This tour has been designed to give clients an overview of the Battle of Guadalcanal Campaign that took place on the Island of Guadalcanal from 7th<\/sup> August till 9th<\/sup> February 1943.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enroute you will visit the following places:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US WAR MEMORIAL AT SKYLINE RIDGE
<\/u><\/strong>The US War Memorial sits atop Skyline Ridge on Skyline Drive and offers an insightful overview of events that took place in and around Guadalcanal during World War II.  There are detailed marble plagues set throughout the memorial and remarkable views to help you get your bearings and identify some of the battle sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EDSON\u2019S BLOODY RIDGE
<\/u><\/strong>Bloody ridge is situated very close to the Henderson Airfield.  The ridge is also called Edson\u2019s Bloody Ridge after Colonel Merritt Edson and his elite team known as the Edsons Raiders.  They defended the ridge against the Japanese, who attempted to capture the airfield.  The frontline is visible and pigtail wires are still scattered through the tall grasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst on Bloody Ridge, just imagine that you are engulfed by the wild and thickest jungle in the Pacific.  From the 12th<\/sup> to 14th<\/sup> of September 1942, Major General Kawaguchi\u2019s 35th<\/sup> Infantry Brigade of 6,000 men lost 3,005 men on the Ridge on and around which you are standing.  To the Japanese Forces, Bloody Ridge was to be known to them as \u201cMUKADE\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

HENDERSON FIELD AREA
<\/u><\/strong>Visit Henderson Field area where the combined Army, Navy and Air Force known as the \u201cCACTUS\u201d \u2013 <\/strong>Air Force flew tireless missions against Japanese Forces on other occupied islands in the Solomons and the Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henderson Field was not only vital and important in Military Strategy, but on which a new invented material was used on the runway.  It was the use of Marzden Mats (P.S.P) Portable or Perforated Plates on the surface of the runway and was repairable in less time after Japanese regular air bombardment of Henderson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also at the Henderson Field Area you will see the Heroes Wall, the Memorial Garden and drive pass the old lookout tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JAPANESE PEACE PARK MEMORIAL AT MT. AUSTEN
<\/u><\/strong>As you arrive at the memorial you can sense a quiet and restful atmosphere.  The stone monument stands tall at the end of a paved square, which is surrounded by red hibiscus and white frangipani, the Japanese national colours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The memorial was built by war veterans and families to commemorate those who had lost their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
